Anna was living beautifully. She had everything she wanted…a cute little dog, beautiful flowers growing on her patio. She was on the beach every day. She even had a new painting by Childe Hassam which her very wealthy friend had purchased for her. She knew he loved her very much. But she didn’t want to see him anymore because of the differences in their ages. And so it was that Charles Benchley III was not interested in seeing anyone anymore. He was back in Europe relaxing comfortably in Ventimiglia. Anna was packing up her suitcase to go to South Bend, Indiana.
