Are we not all supposed to be learned sophisticates who appreciate the experiences of life? Therefore if we affirm such an assumption, the question goes begging: do we really comprehend the dangers of bringing a child into this complex world? And do we see the serious maladies which could confront him? Are the boulders that might be blocking his way eternally situated or can we remove them for him - or should we accept that responsibility? As experienced adults are we able to clear his path of debris? The answer is that as well-worn protectors of his life, we have three opportunities to escort him to sure safety during those dangerous threats. Therefore, as loving parents we stand between him and unseen calamities which can bar his otherwise promising existence on this beautiful blue globe upon which we all seem to tread so carelessly at certain times. Perhaps the responsibility is so basic, so intrinsic to our worthiness as modern parents that we should emulate Bertrand Russell who looked retrospectively to Euclidean solutions. Yet, as we ponder the future of our offspring, wouldn't our responsibility be more productive by virtue of our own sensible reasoning rather than applying Russell's Euclidean theorems to the potential of life's snares?
